Power Tower
Status: Ready for prototyping
During the UNLEASH Innovation Lab of 2018, Dakota Stormer developed a solution to
address energy access needs in Lagos, Nigeria, alongside a team of four other talents from across
the globe. The Power Tower seeks to provide electricity for charging cell phones across the city,
while also allowing energy vendors to take the mobile electricity generation station back to their
communities for energy access at home.
365 Days of Science Campaign
Status: In Effect
Dakota Stormer currently leads an international science advocacy campaign on Twitter with over
10,000 participants. The campaign seeks to bring awareness to the importance of science in
global matters, and focuses on sustainability news across a multitude of topics, including energy,
climate change, and technological development.
Universal Microbore Filtration Cap
Status: Seeking Research Funding
With the numerous plastic bottles thrown in landfills or floating in our oceans, we must find
ways to repurpose our waste and reduce our impact on the earth’s ecosystems. Dakota designed
a universal cap for a microbore filtration technology, similar to that of LifeStraw. This filtration
cap would allow for microbore filtration technology to be attached to waste bottles filled with water
from streams, turning single-use plastics into easily accessible water reservoirs.
Panamanian Garden House
Status: In Use
Dakota Stormer worked with Global Environmental Brigades to design and construct a garden house for teaching
sustainable agricultural practices, such as crop staggering to prevent the spread of disease in fields.
The garden house was designed and constructed by University of Texas students, and lessons were prepared
and presented to local families at the school located in the center of the rural community.
Recycling and Energy Efficiency Campaign
Status: Completed
Dakota Stormer worked with Keep Montgomery County Beautiful, Magnolia ISD, and Waste Management
to instate plastic bottle recycling at Magnolia West High School and Williams Elementary School.
To educate students on proper recycling practices and energy efficiency, Dakota partnered with the
high school Interact Club and National Honor Society to motivate over 100 students across Magnolia
ISD in a recycling and energy efficiency campaign. This campaign received the gold medal in the
Texas Environmental Ambassador competition, along with an honorable mention from the Texas
Environmental Excellence Awards.
